At a ceremony at Tirana Cathedral, Albania, held last week, Geoffrey Bugeja became the first Dominican priest to be ordained in Albania for several hundred years.

He began his novitiate in 1997 and in 1999 went to St Dominic convent in Durres, Albania, to continue his formation.

He became a full member of the Dominican order in 2002, and continued his studies at Our Lady of Good Counsel seminary in Shkoder, Albania, and the Facoltà Teologica di Emiglia Romagna in Bologna, Italy.

He was ordained a deacon last year by Archbishop Paul Cremona in Rabat.
