Żminijietna - Voice of the Left is dissatisfied with the privatisation of the gas service as prices of the LPG cylinders have gone up in a way that is putting pressure on low and middle wage earning families and pensioners when making use of it regularly. The use of household gas is an essential commodity in everyday life.

The propaganda projected by the Nationalist Administration in favour of the privatisation and the transfer of the gas plant is being used to cover up the anti-social increase in the price of LPG gas and the risk of having a private monopoly in the gas sector. We believe this due to the economics of scale and the size of the Maltese islands that make it difficult for other entities to be provided with infrastructure for the storing and provision of gas. Żminijietna supports public entities as these create "social capital" that safeguards families.

Żminijietna appealed to the government to ease these burdens on the workers and their families by the re-introduction of subsidies on the use of LPG gas that is an essential commodity in Maltese households.

Several countries, such as Argentina, subsidise household gas while maintaining on a profitable level that for commercial use.

Żminijietna welcomes with satisfaction the recent decision by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to grant a permit for the transferring of the Qajjenza gas plant to Bengħajsa. This transfer will be to the benefit of the Birżebbuġa residents on environmental and safety grounds.
