Former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff was discharged from hospital yesterday after a four-day stay, the Health Ministry said. “Investigations, including a CT scan of the brain, did not show any new changes. His condition is stable and he is fit to be discharged home,” Mater Dei Hospital superintendent Lina Janulova said.

The 94-year-old former Labour leader had previously been diagnosed with numerous conditions known to be common among the elderly, including congestive heart failure, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and hypertension. He was also susceptible to recurrent chest infections.

“All these conditions are known to be chronic and often result in repeated hospital admissions,” Dr Janulova said.

Mr Mintoff has been in and out of the state hospital over the last few months.
