Transport Minister Austin Gatt told Parliament that a traffic study had yielded a number of recommendations for Valletta once the City Gate project was completed.

Answering a question by Nationalist MP Jesmond Mugliett, Dr Gatt said that in January 2010, ADI had evaluated the project’s impact on traffic. The exercise had analysed various scenarios for the control of traffic in Valletta and made recommendations on one of them.

ADI had also made recommendations on sites where traffic could stop around Castille Place and the Triton fountain; a revision of a 30-minute “period of grace” by the Controlled Vehicular Access (CVA) to discourage traffic in Valletta; enhancements to the junctions in all three locations; and a better layout of Castille Place to serve the public better.

Dr Gatt added that in November 2010 Transport Malta had commissioned a more detailed study on the model and design of the six arterial junctions around Valletta. That study was in the process of finalisation.
