Did you feel lost when you started University? Did the lack of guidance and greater freedom help you discover yourself or distract you from your studies?

"Although I was fine in Sixth Form, I felt quite a difference when I started University. I was lost, and if it wasn't for a good friend, I would have easily given up."
Lara Tanti Gregoraci

"Not at all, I thought it was plain sailing."
Marc Spiteri

"I only felt lost in my first week, then I quickly settled down. I found my place in a student organisation and I quickly joined in the activities."
Edward Camilleri

"Actually, I felt very lost during my first days at Junior College, especially as I used to go to quite a small secondary school. On the other hand, the experience there helped me when I started University. It was this independence which made me more mature and then I actually started believing in education and its benefits."

How do you think the lack of a University dress code will affect you once you finish your studies and start working?

"I believe we make our own dress code, both at work and at University."
Lara Tanti Gregoraci

"I keep my own dress code: comfortable yet neat at all times."
Marc Spiteri

"Although casual clothes may manifest a sense of individualism, a dress code shows the responsibility attributed to your profession."
Edward Camilleri

"I believe in a dress code. I think a uniform gives you and the institution you either study or work at, an identity. So I would definitely agree with a dress code, both at work, and if possible, even while studying."
Matthew Bonnett

Do you think students face a culture shock at University? Are students who attend smaller sixth forms than the Junior College likely to be more spoon-fed and so expect more out of University?

"Not at all. No I don't agree that students with a Church school background are spoon-fed."
Lara Tanti Gregoraci

"Undoubtedly students who would have attended a small school have been more spoon-fed, although being spoon-fed does not result in a lazy student.

"Personally, the adjustment to a new setting was short yet challenging and welcome."
Marc Spiteri

"No, I don't think so... Everyone starts on an equal footing."
Edward Camilleri

"I believe it is up to each individual whether to feel comfortable in a place or else keep feeling lost for a number of months.

"I think the way students feel during their first days at University does not depend much on which schools they went to prior to University. I believe that at the age of 18, a student is mature enough to be independent."
Matthew Bonnett
