I enjoy reading The Times for the information and entertainment value. But an advert I saw on September 27 intrigued me. It was paid for by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Youth Affairs. It called for "mature, committed persons" for invigilation duties.

Next paragraph said "interested persons below the age of 62" should apply.

On Monday, September 29, on page 13, we find an advert of the Ministry for Social Policy, headlined "Equal" and talking of developing "new ways of tackling labour market discrimination and inequality".

The Equal 3 programme comes partly paid for by the EU. I would like a clear and honest answer.
