Renowned Maltese triathlete Dermot Galea will be taking part in the Ironman France on June 27.

His objectives for the gruelling race in France are two-fold - to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii and to raise funds for the Malta Hospice Movement.

The nine-time national triathlon champion will be swimming 3.8kms, cycling 180kms and running the full marathon distance - 42.2kms. This will be Galea's fifth Ironman.

Galea is hopeful that his participation in the Ironman will generate enough funds for the Hospice Movement to purchase more special beds, each costing €1,400.

Donations can be made by cheque (payable to the Malta Hospice Movement) or by sending an SMS to 5061-7384 (€2.33); 5061-8100 (€4.66) and 5061-9234 (€11.65). Deposits may also be made at HSBC, BOV, APS, Lombard Bank and Banif Bank (Malta).
