This year's National Championship has attracted a record total of 47 players in four divisions.

With the league entering the second phase in Division One, players are beginning to ask will it be a fourth for David Delicata?

Although the contest is most certainly not over yet, Delicata has managed to eke his way ahead with 21 wins out of 28 matches and a very high 447 average points per game.

Hot on his trail are JoJo Delia and Peter Elbourne with Mario Saliba and Theresa Camilleri still very much in the race.

Division Two players have entered their third round with Vince Abela leading the pack closely followed by Carmen Stafrace and Christine Strawbridge.

MaryAnne Darmanin, in Division Three, and M'Louise Mifsud and Josephine Mayo, in Division Three A and B, are topping their respective categories.

Meanwhile, in his inaugural address to members, newly-elected Scrabble Club president Joe F. Micallef heartily thanked outgoing president Mario Seychell for his 'hard-to-equal' 14 years at the helm, while naming him an honorary life member.

Micallef promised to modernise the club's management strategies and to hold more popular one-day tournaments which provide excellent opportunities for players of different divisions and newcomers to hone their skills.
