Long-serving Labour MP Joe Debono Grech indicated today that he will not stand in the next general election.

Concluding a speech he made during the Budget debate on Gozo, Mr Debono Grech praised the government for its work and looked forward to it continuing in the next legislature but said this will be the last legislature for him.

Mr Debono Grech is the longest-serving MP in the House, having been first elected in 1966.

He was a minister during the premierships of Dom Mintoff, Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici and Alfred Sant with responsibilities for state investments, communications, transport, and agriculture.
