Patricia Camilleri (The Sunday Times, June 1), kindly pointed out that the the University of Malta was not behind the distribution of leaflets with my Dante translation during the Serata Dantesca; nor did it know who printed them and if the text was mine, after all.

Let me clarify. Those leaflets were printed and distributed by the religious group Comunione e Liberazione, which operates from the University of Malta, and the translation they contained was mine, because there was my name beneath it. But the University authorities were completely oblivious to all this! They did not even see a single leaflet. Rather, Ms Camilleri should have asked the rector to answer all the questions I put to him over a month ago, to which, to date, he has declined to reply, instead of coming out with such a lame and banal attempt to cover up the insult levelled at the Maltese language and, of course, at me!
