England paceman Matthew Hoggard led a fine bowling effort to reduce India to 322 for nine at stumps on the third day of the first test yesterday. Hoggard struck three telling blows in a 11-ball spell in the morning to claim five for 57, his sixth five-wicket innings haul, and reduce India to 190 for seven in reply to the visitors' first innings 393.
Mohammad Kaif (91) led a superb fightback in a 128-run eighth wicket partnership with Anil Kumble (58) before England's bowlers dismissed both batsmen in successive overs.
