A couple arrested on their arrival in Malta allegedly with cocaine capsules hidden in their stomachs were yesterday remanded in custody after denying importation and aggravated possession of the drug.

The man and woman, aged 41 and 30, who are from Aruba in the Caribbean but hold Dutch passports, were arrested at Malta International Airport on Saturday.

The police said the Drug Squad was informed that both may be carrying capsules containing drugs. They were arrested and medical tests at Mater Dei Hospital confirmed they were carrying capsules weighing about 800 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

Their request for bail was refused. Lawyer Noel Bianco appeared for the accused.
