Contractors’ vehicles may be used in secondary roads early in the morning following an agreement between the Malta Developers Association and Transport Malta.

Vehicles like lifters, concrete mixers and light cranes, trucks transporting building bricks and other wide vehicles will be allowed to use secondary roads before 9.30am in most secondary roads without obstructing traffic, the MDA said.

The agreement stipulates secondary roads may be used from 7.30am provided they are not completely blocked.

"A lot of time was being wasted," MDA President Sandro Chetcuti told Times of Malta, adding that the new agreement should not mean more problems with traffic.

The MDA has been in discussion with TM for several weeks in which it has outlined the challenges being faced by many contractors and workers.

Transport Malta next week will be issuing a statement to all local councils outlining this agreement.

“MDA is very grateful that the chairman of Transport Malta together with his team took note of the difficulties caused to these contractors and we are very satisfied with the outcome and agreement reached,” Mr Chetcuti said.
