Black Friday was a major success for retail shop and outlet owners with 85% reporting better sales than Black Friday last year and any other shopping day.

The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU, said a survey it conducted among more than 150 shops and outlets showed that 17% of respondents took part in the Black Friday sales for the first time this year. A quarter of those who did not participate were taking part next year or seriously considering doing so.

GRTU CEO Abigail Mamo noted that the survey results showed that there was an increase in sales of around 25% on average over last year’s Black Friday.

Offers varied between 15% and 70% off with some even outlets also giving special gifts and buy-one-get-one free offers. A total 76% of respondents extended their offers to Saturday.

Ms Mamo noted that 58% of respondents extended their normal shopping hours by opening early, closing late and staying open throughout the day, to offer a better service to customers.
