A consignment of 24 tonnes of oranges dispatched from Egypt and intended to the local market has  been withheld by the Port Health Services after samples revealed the excessive presence of pesticides.

The Port Health Services said that the maximum residue levels for the chemical ethion, established by EU rules, had been exceeded.
