CSB Advocates has appointed Austrian lawyer Peter Binder as the new special counsel, complementing the recent launch of its Austrian desk.

The launch of this specialised department enables Malta-based businesses and individuals to coordinate the assertion of their legal claims and rights in Austria or to apply for the enforcement of Maltese or other EU court judgments as well as arbitral awards in Austria.

Dr Binder is an attorney-at-law under Austrian law and is registered to practise in Malta under this home country title. He has worked in several top law firms in Austria, for the United Nations (UNCITRAL), for various European universities as lecturer and as a law reform consultant, advising governments on modern arbitration and alternative dispute resolution laws. International commercial arbitration is a further area of his expertise.

“The imminent closure of the Austrian embassy in Malta means it is going to be more important for Austrians based in Malta to have direct access to professionals they are familiar with in order to assist them locally as well as for all Malta-based clients to have access to a local contact for any legal actions in Austria,” Dr Binder said.

Ivan Misner, the founder and chairman of business networking organisation BNI, has prepared a message inviting BNI members in Commonwealth countries to visit Malta to attend the Commonwealth Women’s Forum and the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF), the former being held for the first time ever.

His five-minute message, produced by BNI, is being communicated to BNI chapters in Commonwealth countries across the world as from this week.

“Dr Misner’s message is being relayed to BNI chapters in all Commonwealth countries where BNI is present. These include major countries, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, and the UK, where thousands of BNI members – all business persons in their own right – meet every week to share business contacts and give business referrals to each other,” said Malta BNI national director David Bullock.

Set up in 2012, Malta BNI today has six chapters and its current membership stands at over 130 members from a wide range of businesses of all sizes.
