A 30-hour course on community development will start next month at the Malta University Residence, Lija. The short course help participants understand, appreciate and reflect on the ingredients that contribute to a healthy society.

Its aim is to reflect on theory but also work on strategies that can be applied to the participants' respective contexts. Themes will include understanding community, identity negotiation and community profiling, community foundation and contemporary issues in community development, working towards change, social movements and activism and governance, economic and social justice.

The course is organised by Malta University Consulting Services in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Community Services. Andrew Azzopardi is course co-ordinator. Other contributors include Paul Pace, specialist in environmental education, Mario Gerada, social and community operator, and Joe Gerada, specialist in social policy.
