Shock horror, Go's international cable to Sicily was damaged and companies have complained that their businesses have suffered serious losses and even, as one correspondent wrote, caused dishonour to Malta.

One of the advantages of the multiplicity of network operators that we have on the island is that service providers now have choices that should enable them to include strategies for the business continuity of their mission critical operations. Sadly this is a low priority for many companies when planning their telecommunications operations.

Cables and equipment can fail. So rather than pointing fingers at Go, it would be better for these companies to look at their own disaster recovery plans and implement strategies to take such occurrences in their stride.

It is what you do inside your company that makes the difference.
