Two weeks ago I received a call on my mobile phone from a Melita customer service representative with the aim of informing me about one of their latest “offers” (I am not a Melita customer).

I was not interested and asked the representative to identify herself and indicate how Melita managed to get my number as it is not available in any directory and I certainly never forwarded it to Melita.

I was told they have a computer system from which mobile numbers are drawn but failed to inform me how my number ended up there in the first place.

After some reluctance, she gave me her name and, since she was unable to provide a suitable reply to a simple question, she put me through to her supervisor who promised he would immediately investigate and get back to me. Two weeks have since passed and I have not heard from him or Melita.

I would like to question the legality of such behaviour from Melita.

Perhaps the Malta Communications Authority and Melita can shed light on the matter. In any case, I still await an explanation (and apology) from Melita.
