Martin Scicluna, director general of the newly-formed public policy think-thank, The Public Policy Institute, will deliver a lecture on Climate Change And Malta's Future Sustainability at Villa Parisio, in Lija on Monday at 7 p.m.

The lecture is being organised by the Strickland Foundation.

Mr Scicluna, vice-president of Din l-Art Helwa, will trace Malta's economic, social and environmental development in the last 20 years and look ahead to the challenges facing the island in the next 20 or so critical years to 2030 when the threat of climate change will be making itself increasingly felt.

In essence, he will be analysing the progress made in the last two decades and will also look ahead to the unprecedented and epic challenges facing Malta's economy, its society, environment and quality of life in the face of the changes in climate.

He believes future energy supplies and the provision of good, adequate water will increasingly pose major difficulties and asks whether the major political parties will address such issues in their forthcoming election manifestos.

Mr Scicluna is a member of the National Commission for Sustainable Development, a council member of Europa Nostra and a member on the board of the International National Trusts Organisation.

He was executive president of Din l-Art Helwa from 2001 to 2005.
