A number of church organisations said today it was important that the people voted in the May 24 European Parliament elections.

The Environment, Justice and Peace, Pastoral Work and Emigrant commissions, Caritas and the Faith and Justice Centre said that while they acknowledged that the European Union was going through an economic tempest with many asking whether the EU still made sense, they believed that it did and it was still necessary.

They said that the principles of solidarity, subsidiarity and free movement of people and goods, should continue to be strengthened for the sake of peace and justice.

Europe suffered a lot because of the egoism of some. So citizens had to safeguard the acquisitions made for the benefit of current and future generations.

The organisations’ reflection in full can be read in the pdf link below.
