A bus driver has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The investigation was launched by the Malta Public Transport into reports it received yesterday of an argument in the afternoon between the driver and passengers on a route bus in Sliema.

A passenger alleged that the driver did not allow her to get back on the bus after she had got down temporarily to enable someone with a pushchair to alight.

“Malta Public Transport takes such reports very seriously and deeply regrets that our customers’ journey was marred by such incidents. Our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of our passengers, and we will not spare any effort to establish the facts and to ensure that anyone involved in this incident is disciplined accordingly,” Malta Public Transport said.

It said the driver involved has been identified and suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

It also contacted the witness who reported the incident but so far has been unable to make contact with the actual passengers involved.

Malta Public Transport urged customers to contact its Customer Care Centre on telephone 2122 2000, email: enquiries@publictransport.com.mt with feedback, reports or requests for information.
