I could turn a blind eye to this ongoing situation, like the wardens and police. But I choose not to in the hope that, if just one parent saves their child from death or serious injury by using the appropriate child restraint in their car, then job done!

Who am I referring to exactly? Well, how about the drivers of SAX 022, JSD 170, GBD 295, LET 111, AAL 786 and STF 261 for a start (not sure if I am allowed to name-and-shame but I really don't care because these kids trust their parents to keep them safe!) Most of the children were standing up between the front seats, one very young child was sitting on a lap in the front seat (adult restrained and safe... of course) and one, unbelievably, was standing, yes, standing on the front seat. So, in an accident at, say, 40mph, I wonder at what speed do these caring parents think their children will hit the windscreen? Do they think they can restrain them by extending a loving arm? I think not.

But, hey, it won't happen to them will it? And if it did happen, would the parent be charged with endangering the life of a minor or, worst case, manslaughter due to negligence? Come on Malta... we have seen a clean-up-Malta campaign start largely due to pressure in newspapers such as this. Let's raise some pressure on this issue before the worst happens. The clock is ticking.
