Two Chelsea FC senior officials, from the London club's Football In The Community (FITC) organisation, are in Malta for Sunday's Emirates Airline Young Footballer Challenge at the Centenary Stadium.

Chris Harris, Football Development Officer and Laurence Batty, who trains goalkeepers, will assist the local adjudicating panel at the Young Footballer Challenge. They will also conduct a special session for the young participants.

Harris, who has already assisted the Chelsea Supporters Club - Malta during the first edition, is also the director of UK Residential Courses, director of International Courses as well as director of Chelsea Development Courses which link to Chelsea FC Academy.

A former professional with Brighton, he joined Chelsea's youth coaching staff in 1994. Harris carries out scouting duties and organises trials for young footballers.

Batty started his football career with Portugal's SC Farense. He played in the Portuguese league between 1980 and 1984.

After moving to the UK, he joined Fulham. In 1990, Batty signed for Woking in the Conference League and won three FA Vase Trophies.

Following his achievement of a B Licence Coaching Badge, he started his coaching career in school football at Fulham FC. Batty was appointed Academy Goalkeeping Coach for eight to 16-year olds and later on was in charge of the first team goalkeepers.

Batty joined the Chelsea FC academy in 2001 and he also undertook the same duties with Chelsea FITC.

The Chelsea officials' visit has been made possible through the initiative of the supporters club. They are both guests at Kennedy Nova Hotel.

Through the Footballer Challenge, Malta was among the first countries to benefit from Emirates' £24 million four-year sponsorship of Chelsea FC, now in its third season. The concept of this activity was developed in Malta in collaboration with Emirates Airline.

FITC is officially affiliated to Chelsea FC. Since its inception in 1992 by Shaun Gore, it has expanded dramatically and it is now run by eight full-time officers and hundreds of freelance coaches promoting grassroots football within the geographical boundaries allocated via the Professional Footballers Association (PFA).

FITC runs a wide and varied programme of activities and its aim is to develop football and links with the community.
