A 19-year-old girl yesterday pleaded not guilty to defrauding three people to the tune of €2,440 (Lm1,048) between February 7 and 13.

The girl from Marsaxlokk, who cannot be named by court order in order to protect her identity, also pleaded not guilty to stealing a handbag from a woman in Gallerija Shopping Complex, using a cheque book that was not her own, handling stolen property, escaping from police custody and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

She appeared before Magistrate Miriam Hayman who remanded her in custody.

Police Inspectors Spiridone Zammit and Alexander Grech prosecuted.
