Applications for this year’s Skolasajf summer childcare programme opened yesterday.

The programme will run between July 13 and September 4, from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Poor organisation led the opening of the summer programme last year to be postponed by more than a week. The delays, caused by heavy staff shortages, provoked furious complaints by parents and an internal inquiry was launched to pinpoint the source of the problem.

The Education Ministry said yesterday a team of professionally-trained personnel would run each Skolasajf centre. They will all have a coordinator who will be responsible for the overall running of each school.

Play workers will organiseactivities, such as arts and crafts, cooking, story-telling, musical activities, sports and educational contests.

Applications for the service close on April 30. The registration fee is €25.
