Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg yesterday gave notice of a motion nominating former Transport and Communications Minister Ċensu Galea to serve as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The motion was moved after Mr Galea's nomination was unanimously agreed on by the PN parliamentary group at a meeting in the afternoon.

Mr Galea, a former PN whip, will succeed Labour MP Carmelo Abela, who resigned in protest over a ruling by the Speaker after a vote taken during the debate on the Delimara power station extension.
