A man and a woman were arrested yesterday evening after being caught by police in possession of counterfeit euro notes.

The police were alerted by a shopkeeper in Windsor Terrace, Sliema, when the 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, both of Sliema, entered the shop and attempted to pay for something they wanted to buy with euro notes.

The police apprehended the couple on the street and found them in possession of counterfeit euro notes, not exceeding the sum of Lm500.

Duty Magistrate Michael Mallia opened an inquiry and appointed a number of experts.

The police are investigating.
