A mannequin was the only victim when a Fiat Panda ended up in a clothes outlet in Paola after a collision at about 7 a.m. yesterday.

The mannequin inside Tom Tailor corner shop, situated in Tarxien Road, corner with Main Street, was destroyed, shattered by the impact.

Sources said the driver of the car escaped unhurt but was in a state of shock. Tom Tailor was still closed at the time of the accident.

The car ended inside the shop after it was first involved in a collision with a bus, at what shop owner Joe Grech said, is a very dangerous spot for accidents.

Mr Grech said similar accidents involving his shop had occurred on previous occasions at this crossroad and there was the need for some traffic-calming measures to be put in place.

Bollards to protect the shop window were ineffective, so were traffic lights. Perhaps, sleeping policemen could be installed in the area to slow down traffic, Mr Grech said.

He said the cost of the damage to the shop window, the mannequin and furniture inside the shop is expected to run into a few thousand euros. Repair work started later in the day.
