An out-of-control Opel Astra demolished a wall, destroyed a set of traffic lights and damaged a crash barrier on the Birkirkara By-pass early this afternoon.

The car was being driven towards Mater Dei Hospital when it went out of control just before the traffic lights, ploughing into the traffic lights and demolishing a wall before it careered across the road and came to a violent stop against a crash barrier some distance away.

Fortunately no other cars were hit. The driver did not appear to have been injured.
