Steve Camilleri's second consecutive season in the top Italian league was again headlines-hitting for this stalwart Maltese player.

He ended up once more as RN Bogliasco's number one goal-getter with a total of 48 goals, having hit a nap-hand last Saturday in his team's 13-8 win over Roma.

This latest goal tally helped the 22-year-old insert his name among the six top-scorers in the league, a competition which boasts some of the world's leading players.

It is to be remembered that earlier this season Camilleri was part of the All-Stars team of foreigners engaged in Italy which played against the Italian national team in a charity match.

Camilleri scored a goal in his team's comfortable victory on that occasion.

Bogliasco's win on Saturday earned the team from Genova the right to participate in the play-offs which will be held early in May. Such a big number of matches for Camilleri after a long season preceded by the autumn cup commitments for Bogliasco, will now be followed by his summer duties for Neptunes WPSC.

This long and arduous programme over his two-season engagement with Bogliasco, as well as those with Neptunes, besides national team duties, have prevented Camilleri from having a well-earned rest for a long time.

On top of that, he was due to turn out for Malta in the European Championship qualification tournament in Istanbul, this weekend, but he had to skip this event because of this tight schedule of matches.

Ironically, this successful streak has precluded Camilleri from doing duty for his country when he is most needed. Nevertheless, his feats should earn him due recognition as one of Malta's foremost sportsmen in recent years even at elite level.
