After winning the championship for the seventh time, Paola Hibs Candy added the Tony Parnis National Cup to their list of honours. Paola Hibs defeated Flyers Depiro in the first two ties of a three-match series.

Flyers offered stiff resistance to the champions in the first match but in the second, Hibs were in total command.

Fresh from their league success, Paola took Flyers by storm in the opening set of the first game. With Flyers unable to settle down, Paola won the first two sets 25-14, 25-18.

Flyers looked better in the third set, staying very close to their opponents until taking a slight lead at the end of the set. Paola's comeback saw them equalise at 24-24 and the two teams stayed neck-and-neck until Flyers finally managed to close out the set 28-26 in their favour.

However, an inspirational Tiziana Bonnici immediately led Paola's attackers to gain considerable ground in the fourth set. Flyers did not have an answer this time and Hibs wrapped up the first match by winning the fourth set 25-15.

Following Flyers' commendable showing the day before, much more was expected of them in the second match.

But Paola's experience proved too much for Flyers, and with Alison Borg, Carmen Cortis and Gertrude Zarb in fine form, it was soon over.

Depiro coach Charles Gauci tried to spur his players on but Flyers' squad limitations hampered their efforts.

On the other hand, David Bonnici wanted to seal this final series as quickly as possible and he made sure of this, urging his players on every ball.

Hibs won 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13) in 1 hour 17 minutes and the final series 2-0.
