The government has launched a new service, called Business First, providing a host of services to businesses, under one roof.

The service will be operated by Malta Enterprise and its services will range from advice on setting up of businesses to the formalities of registering a company, VAT registration, applications for water and electricity, employment forms and applications for business licences.

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, who announced the new service, said that Business First will also assist foreign investors interested in setting up shop in Malta, with services also including visa applications and residence permits.

Business First will be formally set up on January 23.

Mr Fenech underlined the importance of such a one-stop-shop service for business competitiveness.

Malta Enterprise chairman Alan Camilleri explained that ME has signed business level agreements with 19 government entities in order to channel their services through Business First. In all, some 50 services will be offered under one roof.

Business First will operate from the new Malta Enterprise offices at the former Institute of Health Care in St Luke's Hospital. There will eventually also be offices at SmartCity and in Gozo.
