Two 17-year-old boys were this morning granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,500 (Lm633.47) after they pleaded not guilty to stealing a handbag.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, heard the two teenagers plead not guilty to stealing a handbag containing €360 (Lm154.55) and other objects. One of the boys was also charged with relapsing during the operative period of a probation order.

Inspector Alfred Mallia prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared as legal aid to the young men.

In a separate case, a 33-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay pleaded not guilty to trying to seriously injure a couple in Paola on Tuesday afternoon.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli heard Joseph Muscat plead not guilty to trying to seriously injure the couple in Paola at 4p.m. He was also charged with causing slight injury to the woman, driving at speed and negligently and failing to stop when involved in a traffic accident. Magistrate Demicoli granted him bail against a personal guarantee €1000 (Lm429.18) and a deposit of €200 (Lm85.83).

Police Inspectors Alexander Grech and Spiridone Zammit prosecuted.

Lawyers Joseph Giglio and Stephen Tonna Lowell appeared for Mr Muscat.
