Alex Borg yesterday started his commitments in the IBSF World Championships in China on a poor note after slumping to a 4-0 defeat to Northern Ireland's Dermot McGlinchey in his opening Group G match.

McGlinchey's victory never looked in doubt as he won the four frames 79-6, 67-56, 84-32 and 59-14.

His highest break was 64. Borg takes on China Taipei's player Chi-Yao Chang in his second match today.

Meanwhile, Maltese-Australian player James Mifsud enjoyed a better start to the tournament, winning his opening Group D match against Holland's Roy Stolk 4-0.
