Boat owners are being encouraged to join the Pope during his crossing from Kalkara Creek to the Valletta Waterfront on Sunday between 4.45 and 5.15 p.m.

The intention is for the seacraft to create a festive atmosphere, while escorting the Pope’s Catamaran.

The owners are advised to adhere to the distance stipulated by the organisers. The Pope will travel on the Catamaran San Pawl, as his predecessor Pope John Paul II did in 1990, when he entered the Grand Harbour accompanied by several boats.

The Malta Regatta Boats will also accompany the Catamaran during the journey.

Boats of 12 metres in length or less may accompany the Catamaran all the way, maintaining a minimum distance of 50 metres from the catamaran. Boats over 12 metres are to follow instructions indicated to them by the Armed Forces of Malta patrol craft which will be stationed in the area.

More information and a commemorative flag for the event can be obtained from the Royal Malta Yacht Club, Ta’ Xbiex Seafront, Ta’ Xbiex, XBX 1028, tel: 2133 3109, 2131 8417, e-mail: info@rmyc.orghttp://www.transport.gov.mt/mediacenter/PDFs/1_NTM%2018-10.pdf .
