Equipment on a cargo ship's deck caught fire this afternoon, causing alarm at the Palumbo dockyard.

The blaze, on the bulk carrier Cape Tavor in No. 6 dock, was reported at about 4.30pm.

Fire engines were called. No one is believed to have been injured.

The smoke was seen over a wide area.
