Economics Professor Edward Scicluna studied in Oxford, Toronto and Malta and is the head of the Department of Economics at the University of Malta. He has served as chairman of the Malta Council of Economic and Social Development (MCESD), chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority(MFSA), Electoral Commissioner, director of the Central Bank of Malta and of MIB Ltd. He was also a board member on the National Euro Changeover Committee.

While being a prominent contributor to national debates on economic and financial issues, Prof Scicluna was not involved in politics before the current electoral campaign, but chaired broadcast political debates organised by the Malta Broadcasting Authority.

He also carried out consultancy work for the European Commission, UNESCO, UNEP and rating agencies.

Married, with two adult children and a granddaughter, Prof Scicluna's campaign slogan is Ability, Experience and Credibility.
