Duncan Bezzina, Alex Borg and Simon Camilleri qualified to the KO stages of the European Championships, currently under-way in Bucharest.

In the Open, Bezzina beat Lukas Krek (Czech Republic) 4-0 for his fifth win from six matches. He is second in Group H behind Andrew Pagett, of Wales.

Bezzina's last match will be against Israel's Shachar Ruberg this evening but the Malta champion is already guaranteed of a place in the last 32.

Borg yesterday came from 3-1 down to beat 2007 champion Kevin van Hove, of Belgium, 4-3.

Borg has now won four out of five matches and is currently second in the group behind Sascha Lippe, of Germany.

Borg had breaks of 50, 66 and 129 on his way to beating Van Hove and securing a berth in the KO stages.

This morning, he plays Clinton Franey, of Ireland.

In Masters, Camilleri won his third match from four outings when he beat local player Iulian Dinca 3-0.

Camilleri is second in the group behind Peter Vertommen (Belgium) but is already sure of a place in the last 32.

Meanwhile, Tony Mifsud yesterday kept his hopes alive when he beat Bambos Kouzis, of Cyprus, 3-1. Mifsud had a break of 50 in the third frame. He has now won two matches out of four and is joint third in Group D.

Mifsud plays his last match this afternoon against Daniel Poly, of France. A win is a must for the Maltese veteran to make further progress in the tournament.

The last 32 knock-out stages will start tomorrow afternoon.
