Following a meeting at the FOI premises on September 5, the Federation will be working closely with the Better Regulation Unit (BRU), which was set up last year within the Management Efficiency Unit (MEU), part of the Office of the Prime Minister, to spearhead better regulation within the public service.

Throughout this meeting, MEU executive officer John Aquilina explained that better regulation is one of the key strategies being pursued by Government to promote economic growth and employment creation. The main concept of better regulation is to simplify, wherever necessary, existing and upcoming regulations, and focusing on removing administrative burdens. Simplification is very important because although regulation is a necessary tool for governance, at times it may create unnecessary administrative burdens that negatively impact on the country's competitive environment and economy.

At this meeting Mr Aquilina was accompanied by MEU consultant Marika Tonna and associate consultant Marisa Scerri. The FOI officials were director-general Ray Muscat and administration manager John Scicluna.
