Reference is made to Malcolm Mifsud's article "Will you testify?" (September 12).

Lately, many letters, radio and television adverts have appeared but, unfortunately, some just do not listen and abide by the law.

On August 29, precisely at 1.45 p.m. while driving through Regional Road in Tal-Qroqq, near the national swimming pool, I witnessed a driver of a white van (registration number supplied), in front of me infringe the litter act and throw an empty ice tea recyclable aluminium container out of the vehicle he was driving onto the soil of the centre strip.

On seeing this, I hooted my horn to attract his attention and, further on, while stationary at the red light, I asked him why he had disposed of the container in such a manner.

He just ignored me and pretended not to understand what I had just asked him and drove off!

Ironically, the vehicle carried adverts of a local cleaning company. The Sliema police have been informed and have promised to take action on my report.

Through this letter, I urge the public to report such incidents to their police station and not be afraid of the truth. If the fines are heavy, the culprits might think twice next time round.

It is not the truth to be stated under oath that bothers me but the personal consequence suffered due to the unreliable court system we have whereby it might take more than one "sitting" for the culprit to be brought to justice!
