A bank robber armed with a gun and hand grenades took customers hostage in Greece's main port of Piraeus today.

It was not immediately clear how many people were being held inside the bank, but staff and possibly some customers had been inside when the robbery began.

The robber released between five and eight people, and police were questioning them to determine how many people remained inside.

They had earlier arrested another two people suspected of taking part in the robbery.
