A 35-year-old chef from Sliema was today granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000 after he pleaded not guilty to theft.

Police Inspector Jonathan Ransley told the court that when the police searched chef George Mifsud’s house, they found a good number of items used in restaurants including 36 large tins of tomatoes, curry, olives and other items.

Mr Mifsud used to work at Ta' Kolina Restaurant.

Lawyer Alessandro Lia asked for a ban on his client’s name because of his job. He argued there was a limited number of chefs on the island and also a limited number of suppliers.

Inspector Ransley objected to the demand saying the circumstances were not contemplated by law.
