The winner of the 2002 Nazzareno Vassallo Award for Initiatives in Elder Care is the Inner Wheel Club - Malta.

Founded in 1977, the club now has 65 members who are involved in caring for the elderly.

Inner Wheel Club was chosen from among 10 nominations, which indicated that the elderly were held in high regard by the Maltese, said the chairman of the selection committee, George Hyzler.

The aim of the award is to honour the achievements of individuals and organisations in the field of elderly care, who have carried out initiatives and addressed issues related to aging that have resulted in the improvement of the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of the elderly.

The award was presented yesterday by President Guido de Marco at the Palace in Valletta.
