Dr Ian Farrugia is to be appointed Magistrate, the government announced this afternoon.

Dr Farrugia, who is from Attard, graduated a lawyer in 1995 and specialised in criminal law. 

In June 2010 he was appointed president of the Council for the Professions Complimentary to Medicine. 

He is married to Lynn nee`Gaskell. They have a son.

Dr Farrugia will replace Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, who last week was sworn in as a judge.
