An independent environmental specialist, commissioned by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), has started carrying out an assessment of whether filming activities had an impact on the habitats and species found at Dwejra, Mepa said this afternoon.

"Now that most of the sand has been removed from the site and the clean up operation downscaled to the manual brushing off of sand from on the rock surface, Dr Louis F. Cassar and his appointed team of experts have started to assess the situation and the possible resulting implications, if any, on the area earmarked for filming activities," the Authority said.

It said that the three-week manual clean up operation at Dwejra was constantly being monitored to ensure that the removal of the sand from the site was carried out without causing any damage to the rock surface.
