A collection of 154 photographs depicting events that took place in Malta and abroad throughout most of this year and the last few weeks of 2006 have been brought together in the second edition of The Times Picture Annual.

The colour publication is a collection of pictures chosen from among tens of thousands taken by The Times and The Sunday Times photographers - Darrin Zammit Lupi, who also compiled the collection, Jason Borg, Chris Sant Fournier and Matthew Mirabelli - between November 11 last year and November 10, 2007.

The pictorial journey also includes some freelance contributions and a selection of Reuters photographs.

The 192-page soft back is divided into six sections - news, people in the news, daily life, sport, arts and entertainment and foreign news - for easier access. It is the second edition of what is hoped to be a long-running series and includes several previously unpublished images.

In the book's foreword, the former editor of The Times, Victor Aquilina explains how a heritage in images and printed text that made up the newspaper's picture collection and library was lost forever after the building was burnt down by arsonists in October 1979. He also outlines the direct link between The Times and the pioneers of photojournalism in Britain.

The Times Picture Annual 2007 will be available from tomorrow from leading bookstores for Lm6.95 (€16.19). The public can also buy it together with last year's edition.
