Arsonists set fire to the library of the boys' secondary school in Hamrun last night, even using flammable liquid to achieve their ends.

The Education Ministry in a statement strongly condemned the incident. A week ago unknown persons also set fire to books stored in a store in the same school (The former lyceum).

The ministry pointed out that last night's arson attack coincided with a book fair being held in the library.

The arsonists even took volumes of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica down from the shelves and set them alight.

A computer was also set on fire.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli is holding an inquiry.
