Archbishop Paul Cremona said this morning that in parliament, MPs should learn from each other and be inspired by the Lord's teachings.

Speaking at Mass of the Holy Spirit before the State opening of Parliament, Mgr Cremona drew comparisons with what the Lord expected from St Peter when he chose him to lead the Church.

He said the leaders should show more love than those whom they led, because love solved many problems.

The leaders should be prepared to forgive so as to achieve peace. They should be prepared to suffer for the truth.

They should be humble and prepared to serve in the same way as Jesus Christ had washed the feet of the disciples. In that way, they should be showing dignity to everyone.

Mgr Cremona congratulated all MPs and promised his prayers that Malta will continue to move forward.
