Gift of Life has warned that when society begins to devalue human life from conception, an anti-life mindset that is a forerunner to other equally distrubing beliefs, such as abortion, is ushered in.

In a statement, the pro-life organisation referred to what Prof. Mark Brincat, who provides artificial reproductive technology (ART) services, said in The Times, that frozen embryos are simply one-day fertilised embryos.

With such a comment, Prof. Brincat was devaluing human life at conception whilst reinforcing the unethical practice of embryo freezing as part of a standard local (ART) service, it said.

“We reject this position and we urgently appeal to Prof. Brincat to consider the long-term implications of this type of interpretation,” GoL said.

It stressed that human life at conception was as priceless as all other human life, regardless of its stage of development.

“The embryo is far more than a form of raw material to be stored and used for the production of babies.

“This disquieting approach towards human life at conception highlights the very grounds why the pro-life movement is adamant that embryo freezing is just not an option.”

The organisation welcomed “the levelheaded approach” taken by Josie Musacat, whose clinic also provided ART services.

“Dr Muscat is accurate in his affirmation that embryo freezing presents deep ethical dilemma as to what to do with the inevitable stockpiles of store human lives as a result of the practice.

“We welcome all ethical alternatives to the freezing of embryos,” it said.
